Win the best custom bike ever ever

Nine legends of the custom bike building world are to work together to craft a handbuilt bike that will be the first, and possibly best of, its kind. The bike is the top-prize in a charity raffle promoting the Handmade Bicycle Show being staged in San Jose, USA, in March. The raffle is on the NAHBS website and the winner need not be an attendee of the show (although it would help).

The North American Handmade Bicycle Show (NAHBS) is the world's largest consumer show for custom-built bicycles and has booths from custom builders from the US, the UK and Italy.

The show, now in its third year, has launched its best PR initiative to date. Nine famous bike builders will work together to handcraft a bike for the lucky winner of an online raffle. Tickets are available on the Handmade Bicycle Show website and cost $20 each.

All the proceeds from the raffle will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The frame builders to make the bike are Brian Baylis, Roland Della Santa, Doug Fattic, Bruce Gordon, Tom Kellogg, Andy Newlands, Mark Nobilette, Richard Sachs and J.P. Weigle.

Too many cooks spoil the broth? Too many Chiefs not enough Indians? Unlikely, the frame will feature the best bits from each builder. And there are lust-worthy parts on offer too.

The bike will include a set of Pacenti Original Lugs, a Columbus tubeset from Nova Cycles, Richard Sachs dropouts, a Campagnolo Record Group, Phil Wood hubs, and hand-detailed lugs and joints by each craftsman.

The raffle was organised in honour of Tessa Walker, daughter of NAHBS founder Don Walker. She contracted juvenile diabetes when she was five years old.

Don Walker said:

"I am touched that such a great group of artisans are contributing their efforts on behalf of the JDRF. Their partnershipin this project to benefit the search for a cure to Juvenile Diabetes means a lot to Tessa and me."

The drawing will be held at the NAHBS show in San Jose on Saturday, March 3rd. The lucky winner need not be present to win, but raffle participants are encouraged to attend, meet the builders who will put the bike together, and get fitted then and there for the frame.
