White cycles chained to railings as memorials and danger spot indications
The US project 'Ghost cycle' has come to the UK. The memorial service takes a bicycle and paints it 'Ghost' white. The painted cycle is then placed at accident scenes and hotspots to deter motorists from speeding.
The service also collates accident reports involving cyclists.
If you have information or were a witness to a cycling related incident, then contact Ghost cycle.
Last year more than 130 cyclists were killed on UK roads.

“How to associate cycling with death in the public mind”

However well intentioned, these are an own goal. How better to ensure that people never even consider cycling as a transport option than to create monuments that equate cycling and death?

Dermot is almost certainly correct. This will discourage new cyclists. There is evidence to suggest that as cycling numbers increase, public awareness of cycling increases and accidents decline.
Anything that deters people from cycling will make it increasingly dangerous for those that continue to do so.
What the answer is, I do not know, but this isn't it!

Just reinforces the vulnerability angle and is also a strange idea considering the numbers of other road users killed and injured. Why not ghost cars? Take up too much space, no doubt?
