Shimano's second Chinese factory to be operational this monthShimano's second Chinese factory to be operational this month

An announcement about the establishment of the factory, close to Tianjin airport, was made in March 2003. At the time, it was said the $15m plant would be operational by April 2004.

Beijing Modern Business Daily reported last week that Shimano expects the factory, located in a free trade zone, will be "put into operation in November."

"The company kept a low profile when it initially entered the Chinese market (in 1992).

By contrast, the company is making advertisements everywhere in subway stations of Beijing for now," said the Chinese newspaper.

The 80 000 sq m factory will trade as Shimano (Tianjin) Bicycle Components Ltd.
