Dahon reports sales uplift

The US maker of folding and portable bicycles reports that 2006 sales revenues grew 32 per cent, even though unit sales were relatively flat at 290,000 bicycles sold over the same period.
Dahon is a privately owned company and as such does not reveal sales revenue figures.
Dahon said that the company is selling more bikes at the mid and higher end. Dahon also booked substantial revenues from patent licensing.
Dahon president Dr. David Hon said:
"We are seeing an ongoing groundswell of support for green transport solutions throughout the world. Every year we are seeing new government initiatives supporting green mobility and a gradual but welcome turnaround in government policy to recognise the environment is in need of some care and attention.
"More people are making the choice to use their car less, take public transport or get on a bike. It is a wonderful time to be in an industry where every product sold is going towards lessening impacts on the environment."
Sales to North America and Europe displayed solid growth. After strong sales in 2005, Dahon's unit sales in China flattened. Revenues however, continued to increase, as Dahon added patent licensing and frame sales to its operations. It is estimated over four million folding bicycles are sold in China each year and Dahon said over 50 per cent of these violate one or more Dahon patents.
