The Bicycle Hub, Bird's newest business, is among the first to open in a contemporary building alongside Jackfield Tile Museum, near Ironbridge. The new building is called The New Building.
Supported by the Creative Industries Action Plan, the building will be home to artists and designers with displays and workshops of artworks.
Bird has been involved in the bike trade man and boy. His Bicycle Hub business will promote tandems – his first love – but will also offer single-seater hire bikes.
Bird plans to encourage visitors and residents to the Ironbridge Gorge to hire bikes and experience the valley’s beauty awheel. He has mapped seven circular and linear routes ranging from 3 to 16 miles in length, all starting from the Bicycle Hub.
Most of the routes pass by Ironbridge Gorge Museum sites. The Ironbridge Gorge was one of the crucibles of the Industrial Revolution. Bike hirers can benefit from discount packages including a full day’s bike hire and an annual passport into the museums.
Bird's Tandem Experience captain-and-stoker consultancy business is run from the Bicycle Hub.
Previously, the Tandem Experience was run from Bird's home and a workshop was operated from the Coalport youth hostel, on the opposite side of the Ironbridge Gorge.
