Swivel Head tech sold to Pacific Cycles

The folding bike technology from the Strida inventor is bought by Taiwanese company

Pacific Cycles of Taiwan - not to be confused with Pacific Cycle of the US – has bought the rights to use MAS Design's Swivel Head technology.

Pacific Cycles is the OEM manufacturer of bikes for brands such as Birdy, Banshee, Greenspeed, and ICE.

MAS Design is owned by Mark Sanders, inventor of the Strida and, more recently, Swivel Head folding bike technology. Swivel Head is a patented 3D, 4-bar link technology that allows bikes to quickly fold into compact, wheelable packages.

Folding bikes using this technology will be added to Pacific Cycles' brands to be marketed alongside Reach and CarryMe. They will be available in 700c, 26” and 20” wheel sizes.

Swivel-Head bikes received awards at the 2007 Taipei show.

Swivel-Head technology was initially licensed by Ming Cycle.

The rights were recently returned to MAS Design.

Pacific Cycles chairman George Lin said: “Since first seeing the technology, I was impressed by its function. It allows us to increase our own range of folding bicycles over the whole range of wheel sizes from the 8” CarryMe to 700c."

Sanders said: "There has been huge response from end users keen to buy bikes with this folding technology, and although I am sorry these potential customers will have to to wait a little longer, they will benefit from Pacific Cycles' superb engineering and quality. I am delighted to be working with George and Michael Lin, who are legendary for their innovations and have exciting plans for Swivel-Head technology and bikes."
