Mark Sanders picked up the design award for Pacific Cycle's Mode commuter folding bike, the first folder to win an iF award

The iF Product Design Award is presented annually by international Forum (iF) Design in Hannover, Germany. With a history dating back to 1953, it is one of the world's most prestigious design awards.

During the opening day of CeBit, the world's largest trade fair for digital IT and telecommunications solutions, international Forum Design hosted an awards ceremony announcing the winners of the 50 iF gold awards.

Pacific Cycle's Mode commuter folding bike won one of the gold awards.

Representing Pacific Cycles at the ceremony to accept the trophy was British bike designer Mark Sanders. He designed the Mode and is famous for designing the iconic Strida bike.

Sanders is now posting to Twitter thanks to this BikeBiz article.

The Mode is aimed at commuters that may have not considered cycling or folding bikes as an option. It features Pacific's IF (Integrated Folding) technology that offers a single-action, automatic fold. IF technology is based on a patented 3-dimensional 4-bar linkage that automatically guides the wheels together when folding. Once folded, Mode rolls along in a wheelable package.

In this year's iF Awards, 2,808 products from 39 countries competed for an award. Of the 802 products labeled for excellent designs, the 50 that scored highest in shape, performance, creativity, safety, environmental friendliness were honored with gold.
