electric bike, franceFrench bike sales dip

But electric bike numbers rocket in the Gallic territory

According to this report from BikeEurope, sales of bicycles in France dropped slightly in the last 12 months.

3,417,000 bikes were sold in the Northern Europe territory – a drop of 3.5 per cent in unit sales.

However, sales in terms of value rose by one per cent compared to the previous year. The total value of bikes sales in France last year reached 897 euros.

Sales of electric bikes have boomed by 62 per cent (units) to 15,700, as reported by French industry body Conseil National des Professions du Cycle (Tous a Velo).

French independent bike dealers sold around a quarter of the country’s bikes, while large retail chains like Decathlon – which recently delayed opening a factory in Lille – and Go Sport took over half of the market.
