BIKE Channel UK to air cult classic The King of Mont Ventoux

Just one day after the iconic mountaintop finish on Ventoux in this year’s Tour de France, tune in to relive five of the greatest battles the famous climb has ever witnessed.

The 2016 Tour de France will ascend one of cycling’s toughest climbs on stage 12 of this year’s race – the Mont Ventoux – a painfully hot, barren and windswept mountain that will be sure to cause a major shake-up in the fight for the yellow jersey. On the very next day, exclusive to The BIKE Channel, you have the chance to wind back the clock and see five of the most prolific battles on the Mont Ventoux from Tour de France history.

The King of Mont Ventoux puts five winning heroes of the ascent against each other to endure a virtual battle to find the true King of the climb. The documentary explores the extraordinary evolution of competitive cycling over the last 45 years, showcasing the gruelling efforts of Eddy Merckx, Jean-François Bernard, Richard Virenque, Marco Pantani and Juan Manuel Gárate.

As an added bonus, the five former winners on "the bald mountain" will be watching along with the viewer, as they tell their epic story of the race and reminisce on the pivotal moments, such as Bernard’s famous bike switch, Merckx’s surge of power, Pantani’s second breath, Virenque’s struggle with the heat, and Gárate’s economical style.

Filippo Ubaldini, CEO of BIKE Channel, said: “This is simply not to be missed, Mont Ventoux is synonymous with the greatest cyclists to have graced the Tour de France, and now you can see them battle it out in this fabulous historic feature.”
