The first batch of prizes for the first Taipei D&I Awards have been revealed, with the five Gold Award winners to be revealed at the Taipei Cycle Show next month.
74 products have been selected for the Award debut, winning for their high degree of innovation and outstanding design, rounded down from 207 entries.
Taipei Cycle Show runs from March 7th to 10th, with the award ceremony taking place on the 7th.
Tern's Verge X10 folding bike, Brompton's Toolkit and Dahon's Metro bike were among the 74 winners. The Brompton toolkit is set to include a ring spanner, innovative interlocking tyre levers (patent pending) and self-adhesive puncture repair patches, as well as a reversible ratchet wrench that drives four double ended tool bits. The tyre levers include two sizes of spanner wrenches. In total there are ten tools, all of which fit inside the frame, held in place with magnets and a molded rubber grip.
Birzman's Wedge tool,Velocite's Helios Aero and Jet Black's Z1 Fluid Trainer also scored prizes. Other winners included Merida's Big.Nine 29er hard tail, SRAM's Automatix and Giant's OBO ATX.Article continues below
The Taipei Cycle Design and Innovation Awards 2012 have been organized by TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TBEA (Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association) to celebrate the 25 edition of the international TAIPEI CYCLE Show. The competition was conceived and put together by iF International Forum Design GmbH – by the iF Branch Office Taiwan.
The jury, made up of Ader Chen (Xcellent design, Taipei/Taiwan), Francois Liang (Cycling and Health Tech. Industry R&D Center CHC, Taichung/Taiwan), Hiroaki Tanaka (GEO design, Tokyo/Japan), Johann Geiger (Da-Yeh university, Chunghua/Taiwan), and Martin Kessler (Process Design, Zurich/Switzerland), examined and rated the products on the basis of the following criteria: level of innovation, design quality, choice of materials, environmental impact, range of function, load capacity, safety, universal design and branding.
