Emerson Roberts of Brompton picks up d&i award for company's internal toolkit
Brompton Bicycle of London has today been awarded a Taipei Cycle Design and Innovation Award for its Brompton Toolkit.
The Brompton Toolkit, designed by Goodwin Hartshorn – a London-based industrial design consultancy – and Brompton, was selected from 207 entries as a prize winner.
The award was collected by Brompton sales and marketing director, Emerson Roberts.
Roberts - wearing the Brompton Oratory jacket, as at all trade and consumer bicycle shows - said: "The toolkit is typical of the kind of thinking that drives our design team and that prompted our founder, Andrew Ritchie, to develop the Brompton in the first place: it’s about constantly improving what we offer our customers.
"We are always looking to make using the bike easier and better, and that applies also to when things go wrong and you need some tools to effect a repair.Article continues below
"The toolkit is nvisible inside the bike yet easily to hand on those rare occasions it’s needed. To have it recognised at the inaugural Taipei Cycle Design and Innovation Awards is particularly special; Asia-Pacific has been the fastest-growing region for us in recent years, and we find that consumers here are among the most passionate and committed adopters of the innovations and new products we bring to market."
This is the inaugural year for the d&i awards, hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters' Association (TBEA) and organised by iF International Forum Design GmbH. Products were judged on level of innovation, design quality, choice of materials, environmental impact, range of function, load capacity, safety, universality of design and branding.
