Riders seek to ease tensions following cyclist death

According to a report from the Toronto Star, cyclists in the Canadian city have printed thousands of 'thank you' cards to pass onto to considerate drivers.

The campaign - 'Cyclists paving the Way' - has seen the production of 5,000 cards for deserving drivers. The Toronto Cyclists Union, the group behind the initiative, has recommended that bikers tap on a car window at a stop light to hand over the cards.

Drivers who check for cyclists before opening their door into the street would qualify for the card, suggested the TCU.

The scheme follows what has been reported as simmering tensions in Toronto. The summer saw an incident where a cyclist lost his life following a violent confrontation between a car driver and the rider on Bloor Street in the city.
