23-year old Olympic champion to be honoured tomorrow
Beijing Olympics winner Ed Clancy will collect his MBE tomorrow at Buckingham Palace.
Following a range of honours for figures from the cycling world – for more on that click here – Clancy will pick up his MBE following his impressive record at the 2008 Olympics. Clancy was part of the Team Pursuit squad that broke the world record in the heats and went on to win gold medal, beating Danish rivals by 6.7 seconds while breaking the record again with a time of 3:53:314.
The 23-year old is now part of the Team Halfords Bikehut squad and has scored various individual successes and helped the team win the Tour series.
Clancy said: “Competing for your country is a privilege but being honoured by it and receiving an MBE from the Queen will be special. I know I’ll look back on this day with pride once I’ve finished racing and tell my grandkids how and why I’ve got these letters after my name”.
