Manufacturer brings frame building processes in-house
Enigma Titanium Ltd has expanded with a move to significantly larger premises, the firm has told BikeBiz.
The UK manufacturer and importer of high end titanium and steel frames and bikes has been aiming to grow production capacity for some time, bringing frame building processes in-house and the site move will facilitate this.
The company manufactures titanium, custom steel, and stainless steel cycle frames in East Sussex and also imports high quality products from the Far East.
"The move is part of our long term strategy that will enable us to grow our production capacity and bring all the frame building processes in-house to give us full control of every aspect from design to finish," said managing director and cycle trade veteran Jim Walker.
"As we expand our own manufacturing capacity we will build more and more of the frames we sell in-house so that the greater portion of our sales will be for home-produced product."Article continues below
This has been a long term goal for Walker, who started in the bike business 35 years ago with the then British manufacturer Dawes Cycles. He said it has been a long term goal for him to reverse the decades-long trend.
"At that time there were lots of manufacturers here in the UK building bikes from start-to-finish, names like Raleigh, Falcon, Trusty Viscount, Coventry Eagle, Holdsworthy and others were all producing bikes on home soil, plus almost every town had its own custom frame builder. Now many of these names have either disappeared or have changed from manufacturers to importers and this is a tragedy."
