How is this site going to develop?

The beauty of having a website that is uploaded with fresh news every day is immediacy. Those IBDs and suppliers currently wired up to the web get the sort of trade snippets that used to take up to a month to publish. The traditional idea of a monthly or even bi-weekly trade paper is now old hat. We bring you a daily trade paper!

The bits and pieces you see here will make it into the monthly mag for those head-in-sand business people who have yet to embrace the internet. The printer BikeBiz will, however, be mainly a features-led publication, something people will keep and refer to over a long period of time. There will be retail trends information and seminar transcripts that work better in a printed magazine than a website.

Those trade papers that dont go down this route will go the way of the dodo. Its possibly a similar story for IBDs and suppliers. Youre must be web-savvy because youre plugged into this site: youre therefore already one up on your non-webby competitors.

Radio and TV took many years to take hold; the internet is taking over the world much more rapidly and businesses that take early advantage of what the WWW can offer them are more likely to be the star performers in the future.

If youre a regular visitor to this site youll have seen how it has developed quickly. Weve added fresh news daily and we have modified how we communicate with our visitors by adding things such as bulletin boards when we thought wed like to try something new. Just as direct mail has a reasonably immediate effect it either works or it doesnt, and you can quickly test another concept to a portion of your database until you find the promotion that works the internet can bring results not in days but hours, soemtimes even minutes.

We shall be devoting a great deal of space in the printed version of BikeBiz to ramming home this message to those businesses not yet benefitting from the internet. Be assured that youll always be one step ahead because you came onbaord earlier than the majority. But the web is a great leveller: even though you might be an early adopter the internet is so immediate, and consumers so fickle, that theres no let up. Once you commit to doing business on the net, you darent stop. Exciting, isnt it?
