Key event going begging

Apathy is a dangerous thing. Too few members attend the AGM of the ACT. Even in the bad old days when, as newcomers might see it, a few stick-in-the-muds would hold up proceedings with daft points of order and offensive arguments, there were always major trends to be picked up and fellow traders to brainstorm with.

Perhaps Independent Bicycle Dealers should open their eyes to whats been happening to the ACT over the past year? Its a very different organisation: sharper, more business-like and with board members committed to improving the lot of members.

This years conference is being kept deliberately short and sweet to prevent any shennanigans. Instead theres a line-up of industry and non-industry speakers at the afternoon seminars and a free nosh-up in the evening which is always a laugh.

BikeBiz wouldnt dream of missing this years AGM, it looks set to be an important one. Shame, then, that its only a small fraction of the membership who look as though they are making time for what could be this years best business-boosting event.

With no BIKE 2000 coming up (I wonder why?) the ACT AGM will be the last chance this year for the industry to get together before the Y2K. There are important trade issues to discuss and for the sake of argument say a rogue dealer or two hijacked the meeting for their own petty arguments, that would be merely a sideshow, a day spent at any trade gathering is always useful because you always pick up on vital facts and trends, not something that happens when youre so independent you never venture from your shop.

Heres the venue: Nottingham Moat House. Heres the date: October 6th. Heres where to book: Tel 01892 526081.
