Pro-cycling President opens Asias largest Cycle Show
Ma Ying-jeou, President of the Republic of China, opened the Taipei Cycle Show 2009 and lauded the bike business for beating the economic crisis, according to the Taiwan News.The show will see in excess of 2,800 booths run by 763 firms from Taipei and abroad – including 32 countries.
Speaking at the opening of the show, Ma urged more consumers to use bicycles for travel, exercise and commuting. Ma Ying-jeou also praised Taiwan’s manufacturing industry for its role in bicycle research as well as manufacture.
The pro-cycling former Mayor of Taipei saw the creation of 132km of cycle routes in the area during his time in charge.
