Thomson offers first cycle holidays

Holiday company Thomson is offering cycling holidays, hosted by Olympic stars, for the first time.

In a move that lends weight to the view that cycling is an increasingly attractive sector, Thomson has drafted in Geraint Thomas to lead a three-day trip in Belgium in August, taking on routes made famous in the Tour of Flanders.

A Thomson spokesperson told BikeBiz: “This is the first time [Thomson has offered cycling holidays] which is why it is so great we have so many professionals on board.

“As well as Geraint Thomas for the Belgium tour there will be a British Cycling registered coach and some local professional riders joining the trip, a vehicle following the group containing CNP nutrition packs for each rider and we will be working alongside Allen Bridge of Polocini Cyclosportives who has a wealth of experience in managing UK based cycling events and is an expert on the Tour of Flanders.

“Thomson Sport is delighted Geraint will be a part of such an exciting and memorable trip.”

Hot on the heels of offering its first-ever cycling trip, Thomson has secured Ben Swift as its newest ambassador.

“It’s my third year of professional cycling now and, although I have the support from my team, it is a great feeling to know that I have the backing of a company like Thomson Sport," said Swift. "I obviously want to promote cycling as much as I can so I hope I can do this more in my role as an ambassador.”

Packages to watch the stars battle it out at the Tour de France are available through Thomson Sport. VIP Hospitality packages start from £199pp including Grandstand seats in the ‘Grand Palais’, refreshments throughout the afternoon and a Tour de France gift.
