Government unveils plans to 'put cycling at the heart of transport policy'.
Hundreds of train stations are to be fitted with secure parking spaces for bicycles as part of a £14 million transport initiative.
The 10,000 new spaces will be monitored by CCTV and will be accessible using a swipe card system.
Furthermore, so-called 'cycle hubs' - reported first here on BikeBiz.com earlier in the year - will be created at ten main stations - Waterloo, Victoria, St Pancras, Leeds, Sheffield, York, Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Liverpool Lime Street - offering repairs, bike hire and other services.
It's all part of a move to get people to drop their cars in favour of pedal power - the Department for Transport wants 2.5 million more people cycling regularly.
Transport Secretary Lord Adonis was converted to the bike-parking-at-stations cause during a visit to Leiden in the Netherlands, a few months ago.
