London store to close on May 5th.

London bike store Velorution will be closing its doors on 5th May.

According to the shop website this morning "You have five weeks to catch a bargain."

The news was also announced on Twitter and by email.

"We are discounting ALL stock items up to 50%. You are unlikely to find better bargains this spring," wrote store owner Andrea Casalotti.

He added: "Thank you for supporting us these past seven years; it has been a privilege to service you all. London has been transformed and that is thanks to you. In spite of all the broken promises by the politicians, you show everyday, by cycling to work or with your children, how beautiful this city could be. Thank you for doing your part in realising the Velorution dream!"

The shop specialised in stylish city bikes rather than sport bikes.

I am very sorry to hear that Velorution is closing. For the last 7 years, it has been a beacon of interest and excellence, appealing to the cognoscienti of London’s cycling community. I remember well their first order for Dahon bikes after Andrea contacted me in April 2005 regarding their fledgeling “Rent-a-Folder service”…..Now that sounds familiar, doesn’t it! Well I guess they were leading the pack. I very much hope that he will continue to be an active part of bicycling culture and may I take this opportunity to thank Andrea for his support of folding bikes over the years, and wish him and his staff well for the future.

Andrea - if it's not too personal, could you outline the reason that you are closing, has the industry, cycling community or UK business environment let you down?
