Canadian bike shop owners create 'Bike Store Day'

March 24th will be Canada's first Bike Store Day.

"The purpose of Bike Store Day is to showcase all that small bike businesses do to support their local communities," says the website promoting Canada's first Bike Shop Day.

The promotional event was created by two bike shop owners, Sear Carter of BikeBike Inc. of Calgary, Alberta, and Ben Cowie of London Bicycle Cafe of London, Ontario. Carter said he was inspired to create the cycle-specific event by Canada's Record Store Day.

The pair envisage the day being a hook for promotions organised by local bike shops. "What your store makes of Bike Store Day is limited only by your imagination," says Carter.

"Each bike store decides how to celebrate, whether that be through a sale, an event, a product launch, workshops and clinics, bike rides or city tours."

Carter is using the generic #supportyourlocalbikeshop to seed the event on social media.
