Olympian Joanna Rowsell and soap stars from Emmerdale will take part in the sold out event

8,000 heading to The Great Manchester Cycle this Sunday

The Sunday (June 30th) will see the second edition of the closed-road Great Manchester Cycle.

Starting from the Etihad Campus, participants will ride past local landmarks including Old Trafford and a stretch on Mancunian Way, usually one of the city’s busiest roads. There are three distances available – 13, 26 or 52-mile rides are available through Manchester’s traffic-free streets – but spaces are now sold out.

Taking part in the 52-mile route will be Olympic Gold medallist and local Joanna Rowsell. She said: “Manchester is one of the best cities for sport and cycling in the UK, so to be able to explore on the safety of closed roads will be a really unique experience. It’s great to see the Great Manchester Cycle returning for a second year as it’s such a fantastic event."

Emmerdale stars will be riding for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Jamie Still, Event Director from organisers Nova, said, “We received an amazing response to this event in its first year, from participants across the region and around the UK. We hope it will continue to grow from strength to strength with the invaluable support of our partners Manchester City Council.”
