Next weekend (August 12/13th) sees the official opening of the 9feet Trail at Afan Argoed, near Port Talbot.

9feet.com sponsor MTB route

At the moment the commerce-and-community e-tail site has got deep pockets and as well as pumping thousands of pounds into sponsoring MTB routes and walking trails, is taking brand building ads in the consumer outdoor and cycling mags.

How long this can last from a site that surely cannot be selling shed loads of bikes or gear is a moot point but hats off to 9feet.com anyway, its investing in the grass roots which is always to be applauded.

The site is currently advertising 50 percent reductions in its first sale but this isnt necessarily an indication of lukewarm product shifting because even the best IBDs have summer sales at the moment.

Kona bikes are attracting the deepest discounts, which is mirrored in the bricks and mortar world too.

The Orange bikes on offer and PDIed and boxed out to consumers by an IBD on the Isle of Wight, against the wishes of Orange are being offered at full retail. This is admirable but it makes you ask why anybody would buy a bike from 9feet.com in the first place. Surely, online, its no discount, no sale?
