At today's Tour de France route presentation the new jersey sponsor - Le Coq Sportif - unveiled the 2012 jerseys.

Athletic rooster is back in Le Tour

Tour de France technical director Bernard Hinault and French tennis Yannick Noah (sponsored by Le Coq Sportif) unveiled the new jerseys at today’s route presentation at the Palais des Congrès convention centre in Paris. The sponsorship switch from Nike to Le Coq Sportif was announced in June but this was the first time the new jerseys have been seen.

Star riders, a media circus, and team managers were at this morning’s route presentation. Le Tour 2012 takes place between 30th June and 22nd July. Plan your holiday in France with the Tour map.

French sport clothing brand Le Coq Sportif signed with Le Tour organiser Amaury Sport Organisation earlier this year. Le Coq Sportif will provide the official jerseys – and replicas – for all A.S.O. cycling events.

The brand has had a long association with the Tour de France, having first produced jerseys for teams in the 1951 Tour. Le Coq Sportif supplied the jerseys for 40 years.

Riders from Jacques Anquetil to Bernard Hinault – hime again – and Eddy Merckx pulled on jerseys bearing the Le Coq Sportif logo.

The gallic rooster is a national symbol of France.

The brand has been recently building up its portfolio of cycling products, including producing retro cycling jerseys for such events as L’Eroica and launching a World Champion range of clothing.
