Bike Dock instals bike parking in The Shard, London

The team behind the Shard – the tallest building in Western Europe – selected Bike Dock Solutions to instal the bike parking facilities for the eye-catching building.

Open to the public since February, the multi-purpose building includes space for residences, a hotel, offices, restaurants and shops.

Bike Dock revealed that bicycle parking was the last to go in (as with most projects, the firm said). Bike Dock Solutions was approached as it was, we’re told, the only supplier able to meet the three week turnaround time for a bespoke two tier rack design before the red ribbon was cut. 166 two-tier racks were installed, providing parking for 332 bikes.

MD Alastair Worlidge commented: "To contribute to a project that was so refined and was 13 years in duration from planning to completion was an honour. Designers inspected our products at various locations before selecting us as their preferred supplier and this was a huge compliment. We are very proud as a company to have such a prestigious project under our belt."

If you’re after more stats, 56,000 square metres of glass were included in the Shard specifications and 95 per cent of the materials used in construction were recycled.

Bike Dock Solutions recently celebrated its fifth birthday.
