Osprey's 'hydraulic' hydration pack for hikers wins gold in the Outdoor Industry Awards; bike pack aims for Eurobike gold

Bike hydration pack guns for gold

Osprey’s new Manta 25 – part of the Hydraulics range of hydration packs launched at the Friedrichshafen OutDoor show – won gold in the OutDoor Industry Award 2009

"Osprey Hydraulics was three years in the making and initial feedback is excellent: it changes the way you think about traditional hydration packs," says a statement from Osprey.

Of the 242 entries submitted from 18 different countries, a total of nine were rewarded with a gold award. The jury said of the Manta 25: “The problem of integrating the drinking system into the backpack has been solved in an innovative way. The very lightweight design, outstanding fit and good ventilation are what make this backpack stand out from the competition.”

The Manta is Osprey’s hydration backpack for hikers. It delivers a consistent water supply thanks to a squeezing effect from Osprey’s new HydraLock frame system. This squeezing creates hydraulic pressure for increased water flow and minimal water ‘sloshing’.

"Water flow can be increased when the user’s back is arched for quick ‘hydraulic’ bursts of H2O," says Osprey.

A patented magnetic buckle incorporated into the chest strap enables the bite valve to be easily secured out-of-the-way

The Raptor is the bike specific hyration pack and has similar features to the Manta. Osprey is exhibiting at Eurobike and the Raptor will be entered into the Eurobike awards.

The Raptor series also includes Osprey’s new LidLock helmet clip to stow a bike helmet on the front of the pack, as well as bike specific tool pockets.
