Bike Rumor adds an “e”

US techie cycling blog Bikerumor is rolling out a sister site, e-Bikerumor.com.

Bikerumor founder Tyler Benedict said the roll-out was at the industry’s request: "Most cycling media, including Bikerumor, are taking a tepid approach to e-bike coverage. We wanted to dive in deep on this growing category and give the brands somewhere to showcase their exciting new products and technology."

He added: "Our hardcore readers are more interested in traditional road, gravel, cyclocross and mountain bikes. Going forward, the majority of our e-bike coverage will be on e-Bikerumor, with only the biggest, most interesting news summarized on the original site."

Tyler has been keeping close tabs on the sector, which has been expanding fast in the US. He’s a regular visitor to Eurobike which, famously, could knock out the "uro" from its name.

"We noticed early on that all ages were interested in eMTB at Eurobike," Benedict explains. "And the product managers for European brands have told us that pedal-assist bikes are almost exclusively responsible for sales growth over the past couple years."

E-Bikerumor will cover e-MTBs and electric road, commuter, city, cargo and other types of pedal-assist bicycles. The site will also cover advocacy, trail access, legal issues, and educational topics to help new riders learn about e-bike technologies.

"Our team of expert riders and writers is very familiar with the tech, and e-Bikerumor is already live with an extensive catalog of product news and knowledge articles," said Benedict. The new site is complemented with electrified Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts.
