2008 sees sales rise; electrical bikes lead the surge

Bike sales increase in Holland

Dutch transport organisation BOVAG has revealed that Holland spent 905 million euros on bicycles last year.

According to this report from Radio Netherlands Worldwide, the economic downturn didn’t affect sales in the last quarter of 2008, and BOVAG joined bike industry pundits in predicting that the tougher financial climate might lead to an increased uptake in cyclists and bike sales.

The sales figures saw a rise in electric bike purchases in the territory, but BOVAG expected traditional bicycle sales to continue to perform well in 2009.
