Cycle trade readies itself for national programme of events

BIKE WEEK 2009: Kicks off tomorrow

A range of cycle firms, retailers and even celebrities have given their backing to the year’s Bike Week – a national celebration of cycling, with hundreds of individual events taking place all across the UK from Saturday June 13th to Sunday June 21st.

Giant retailer Halfords has lent its support to Bike Week, as have cycling and non-cycling celebs alike, including the Athertons.

Cycling England chairman Phillip Darnton told BikeBiz: “Bike Week is probably the biggest celebration of bicycling in the year.

“It thrives by being a grass roots series of events, rather than a top-down, centrally organised event. It’s really about thousands and thousands of people getting excited about cycling.”
