Switzerland’s BMC has clinched this year’s Cycling Plus Bike of the Year 2015 competition for the Granfondo GF01.
The competition, seen as something of an institution and sales driver, saw Evans-exclusive BMC triumph over a shortlist including Giant’s Propel, the Trek Domane, Cannondale’s Synapse and GT’s Grade.
This year’s C+ best road bike comp pitted 35 road bikes, priced between £1,500 and £2,500, against each other. The Bike of the Year supplement will appear in the 300th issue of Cycling Plus.
The testers summed up each bike:
BMC Granfondo GF01: “The BMC Granfondo GF01 climbs beautifully, its race-developed frame means that not an ounce of effort is wasted. It’s pro-level frame and excellent disc brakes induce masse of confidence on descents. The GF01 is astonishingly accomplished in more than one realm of riding – and for that reason it’s the Cycling Plus Bike of the Year.”
Giant’s Propel: “Insanely fast, yet very comfortable, handles better than any aero road bike we’ve ever tested and makes you feel like a superfast superhero.”
The Trek Domane: “Handles sweetly and is as comfortable as a Rolls-Royce, making you feel at ease regardless of the road surface or the terrain.
Cannondale’s Synapse: “The 2015 model is last year’s equal – with added disc brake goodness. It’s fast handling, comfortable and well equipped, and quite simply a joy to ride day.”
GT’s Grade: “Is all about fun. It’s fast on the road but blisteringly quick on dirt – a joyous, horizon-broadening mix!”
