TfL cash helps provision of secure bike shelters and stands in area, close to Cycle Superhighway 3

Borough of Newham enlists Bike Dock to boost bicycle facilities

Award-winning cycle parking firm Bike Dock Solutions has provided the London borough of Newham with shelters and stands.

Four new shelters and stands have been installed at Newham General Hospital, while Bike Dock has also provided stands at The Place in Canning town and a new shelter at Waterfront Studios.

Cycle Superhighway Route 3 runs through Newham and TfL has provided Local Authorities with complimentary funding for secure cycle parking at places of employment near the route to encourage use of the highway.

Kristian Turner, cycling officer at Newham Council, explained: “With funding from Transport for London we have increased cycle parking provision by over 100 spaces at key employment centres near the A13.

“These have been identified and prioritised by the Council and user groups, and Bike Dock Solutions have come in to install the facilities which have been welcomed by users and businesses.”

Bike Dock sales director James Nash added: “In the UK, a bicycle is stolen every minute and less than five per cent of those are returned to their owners. “Cyclists are more likely to have their bikes stolen than motorcyclists their motorcycle or car owners and cycle theft is the single greatest deterrent to cycle.”
