500 Brompton riders and celebrities set to ride the iconic course on 30 July

Brompton World Championship final takes to the streets of London

This year marks the 11th anniversary of the Brompton World Championship Final and it will be the second time that the race will be held in London as part of Prudential RideLondon.

Brompton riders will again have the chance to race on the world-famous circuit that starts on The Mall and takes in Horseguards Parade and Buckingham Palace.

The event takes the form of a Le Mans style start as 500 smartly-dressed competitors (no lycra allowed!) from 34 countries around the world make a mad dash to unfold their bikes before setting off on the circuit.

A host of well-known names from the cycling and media world will be taking part in this year’s race, including former Tour de France yellow jersey holder David Millar, UK Time Trial Champion Michael Hutchinson and British Cycling CEO Ian Drake.

A team of staff and correspondents from the BBC including Mike Wooldridge and Stephen Sackur will also be getting involved, racing for the BBC’s international development charity Media Action. Supporters of the charity will be back out on their Brompton’s on the Sunday taking part in the Prudential RideLondon Surrey 100, alongside 40 other Brompton riders taking on the 100-mile course.

To mark the 11th anniversary of the Brompton World Championship, a limited edition Championship bike has been produced and is only available in Brompton Junction stores and selected Evans Cycles dealerships. The bike has been specially designed for speed and agility, making it perfect for racing around the city on your morning commute. Only 200 have been made.

Stephen Loftus, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Brompton Bicycle, says: “We are delighted to be bringing the Brompton World Championship Final back to central London as part of Prudential RideLondon. With more than 500 Brompton riders set to race, we have no doubt this year will be an even greater spectacle. There is also an opportunity for all those in the capital during the Prudential RideLondon weekend to trial a Brompton for free at the Aldwych Festival site.
