With BTclick&buy you can start charging for access to parts of your website. This isn't for everybody but if you offer premium content (valuable PDF downloads, for instance), BT's micropayment system you can start charging from 9th September. And it's dead easy to set-up. Hmm, maybe we should start charging for access to BikeBiz.co.uk!

BT launches B2C micropayments service

From Monday, consumers will be able to buy content and services from the internet without having to give out credit card details across the web. Consumers register their payment details once and, whenever they use the BT click&buy button to purchase from a website, transactions are charged back to their BT click&buy account for monthly billing.

From launch, consumers going to www.btclickandbuy.com will be able to buy premium content ranging from games, music, film, recipes, news, reports, sport, horoscopes, ringtones, and financial advice. It’s easy to register as a ‘content provider’.

"All you have to do is register with us, and tell us which areas of your site you’d like to charge for," says the BT promotional blurb.

"And there’s flexibility in pricing, so you can choose the price that’s right for you. We then collect the total spent by your customers each month, and credit your account.

"The BT name means we can offer you a complete service with a number of added benefits, rather than just an easy payment mechanism.

Firstly, you avoid the complex task of setting up a payment mechanism with the bank yourself, which can be extremely expensive and time consuming if you go it alone.

"Secondly, our service automatically includes complete customer relationship management, so you don’t have to deal with any of your customers’ queries, as these are taken care of by our call centre which is open from 8am to 10pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm weekends and Bank Holidays. We also take care of all financial administration, for both you and your customers.

"Thirdly, the BT click&buy site provides you and your customers with your own personal sections of the site, so you can manage your offers, set up new ones, increase or decrease charges, view all financial information, and your customers can keep track of their account too."
