The Olympics Delivery Authority (ODA) confirmed it would invest £11.5 million on improving London’s cycling and walking network in time for the Olympics in 2012. The cash is part of an ambition to keep the forthcoming event as car-free as possible, according to the Evening Standard.

385,000 spectators are expected to either cycle or walk to the games, with estimates of 4,400 cycling on peak days.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to improve the Greenway – land inside and next to the Olympic Park.

The first route will stretch from Finsbury Park to Victoria Park, linking green spaces in the Hackney area, with the creation of 5,000 free cycle parking spaces.

Another 63 mile stretch will link Epping Forest to the Olympic Park, while other cycle routes have been earmarked for improvement in time for the games.
