Bike Bike Revival starts this weekend

£1m Big Bike Revival aims to get thousands of bikes back in use

The Big Bike Revival is a new campaign run by CTC to helped people rediscover the joy of cycling. It has been supported with £1m from the Department for Transport.

Over two weeks starting this Saturday there are lots of events happening at community-based cycling projects across England. There will be Dr Bike sessions, free workshops, led rides, entertainment and, of course, cake. A "thunderclap" social media promotion for the event imagines a talking bicycle:

"Remember me? I’m the bike you forgot, left to gather dust and cobwebs in the dark. "You’d like to get me out again. But where to start? Punctured tyres, a slipped chain, loose bolts… I really am in need of some TLC. "Fortunately, The Big Bike Revival is just around the corner. It’s the perfect chance for you to get me spruced up by those lovely people at your nearest cycle centre and learn how to take good care of me in the future – or donate me for someone else to ride. "There are thousands of unused bikes like me lying in sheds and garages across the country. I hope everyone takes this opportunity to restore us and remind themselves how much fun cycling can be."

The Big Bike Revival is also on Facebook. CTC recommends the use of these hashtags on Twitter: #bigbikerevival and #favouritebike.
