7000 watch XC race at Fort Bill

Mike Jardine from Event Organisers Rare Management said: "We’re having a magnificent day of racing here at the Nevis Range. With both the World Cup cross country and 4-cross events attracting about seven thousand spectators.

"It has been a great day for Great Britain with Liam Killeen making it on to the podium in fourth placein the Cross Country. With the Olympics only weeks away I am sure he will be chasing a medal in Athens."

Frank MacAveety,MSP, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport also dropped in to Nevis Range to watch all the day’s action and to chat to officials from the UCI about Fort William’s bid to host the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in 2007.

"We are all set now for the climax of the weekend, the downhill and our hopes are on Steve Peat and the other UK riders in front of a very loud and cheerful home crowd," said Jardine.
