Leon McCarron is a Northern Irish adventurer and cameraman, specialisng in self-supported expeditions.

In 2012 he crossed 1000 miles of the Empty Quarter desert, roughly following the route of explorer Wilfred Thesiger and pulling a cart loaded with supplies. In the same year he also completed a 3000 mile walking expedition, trekking the length of China from Mongolia to Hong Kong and filming along the way for National Geographic. Previously he has cycled 14,000 miles solo from New York to Hong Kong.

At the end of June he's staying closer to home but his trip will still be a toughie. He's to ride between six peaks on a Dahon folding bike, and then attach the bike to his backpack for the climbs.

"When I am cycling I will have a backpack attached to the bike, and when I'm on the mountains the folded bike will be strapped to the backpack," he said.

"I have become increasingly interested in folding bicycles. Living in London I often see them scooting around from place to place, taking commuters across the city. I wondered just how far you could go on one of these? They seem to have amazing potential for adventure."

The six peaks McCarron will climb are Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland; Carrantoohill in the Republic of Ireland; Snowdon in Wales; Snaefell on the Isle of Man; Scafell Pike in Cumbria; and Ben Nevis in Scotland.

He's being supported by Dahon, Osprey packs, Kryptonite locks, BAM bamboo clothing and High5 sports nutrition.
