Cycling Scotland mass participation ride returns in September

All riders welcome for Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland 2011

The Freshnlo-sponsored Pedal for Scotland cycling event is returning this year on September 11th.

The ride starts in Glasgow and finishes in Edinburgh, with three ride options available to attract as many participants as possible – the 51 mile Challenge Ride, the 100 mile Sportive Ride or the short traffic-free Family Ride in Glasgow.

Last year over 9,000 took part. Organiser Cycling Scotland hopes for over 11,000 participants this September.

Kelly Cates (nee Dalglish) is helping drum up attention for Pedal for Scotland and the 30th birthday of milk brand and event sponsor Freshnlo. Years ago Cates advertised the brand with her father Kenny Dalglish, manager of Liverpool FC. Bikes from Freshnlo’s first decade – including Choppers and BMXs – were featured in the photo call for the event.

Kelly now a presenter with ESPN said: “Taking part in Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is a great way for Scots to come together to celebrate freshnlo’s 30th anniversary. The event encompasses all of what the milk represents, people coming together to enjoy exercise and drinking milk as part of a healthy lifestyle. Come on get on your bike and enjoy it.”

Ian Aitken, chief executive of Cycling Scotland, commented: “Freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is a brilliant way for families, groups of friends or colleagues to take part in a challenge together and have a great day out. It also provides great motivation if you’re looking to get back in shape – by signing up now you have a goal to train for all summer long.”
