In the UK cycle trade there are too many IBDs, wholesalers, distributors, trade shows, trade mags, consumer mags, and organisations.
If one of the many low to mid end MTB importers were to implode, nobody would care much.
But Arc Marketing was importing top-end commuting/getting about town kit for discerning IBDs and OEMs to sell on to discerning quality-conscious customers. Arc was niche but getting bigger. As Ruth Casson today told bikebiz.co.uk, Arc was operating in a growing part of the market.
Arc Marketing UK Ltd has been trading for seven years.
According to Ruth Casson it had: "Good suppliers with good products; and good customers who paid their bills on time."
But, she said, Andy Easterbrook was suffering from ill health and "didn't want to work."
Upon taking financial advice, her accountant advised voluntary liquidation.
IBDs will not suffer shortages of Arc product in the short term as all orders are being processed.
Some of the bigger customers are helping out. Casson wanted to praise Robin Thorn of St John Street Cycles in particular: "He's been a real angel," she said.
