Arkel has been handcrafting pannier bags since 1998. German bike brand Tout Terrain has been selling Arkel into Germany but has now taken over distribution for the whole of Europe.
Arkel makes bomb-proof pannier bags; Tout Terrain is making a name for itself as a manufacturer of innovative expedition and town bikes, and is winning awards for its accessory line.
This accessory line includes the SC32 suspension fork for touring bikes, a tie-up with Maverick. The fork consists of fork, pannier and rack.
At Eurobike, Tout Terrain first displayed The Plug, which converts power from an existing dynamo hub for use on USB-powered devices such as mobile phones, iPods and GPS devices.
Arkel products are made in Quebec. The company’s website says: "At Arkel, panniers are not a side business, they are our only business."
As well as bags for city use, Arkel makes expedition, tandem and recumbent-specific bags.
