Asda, said to be the world's largest retailer, has appointed Cyclescheme to provide its 165,000 employees with tax-free bicycles.
Asda's 400 stores and depot staff have now been invited to take advantage of the scheme via the 1,300 independent retailers who work with Cyclescheme.
Matt Ward of Aftermarket, Cyclescheme's marketing partner, told BikeBiz: "Months of hard work have gone into this deal. The Cyclescheme team should be commended on their abilities to satisfy SMEs, local authorities and international businesses such as Asda, from an administrative and added value perspective. In addition, Cyclescheme are working hard to ensure that IBD's are at the forefront of the supply of bikes and accessories to such employers."
Speaking about the exciting new partnership Cyclescheme director Gary Cooper added: “We are thrilled to be working with such a prestigious customer as Asda. It was particularly important to win this account to secure ongoing business for the independent bike trade, and it is a statement of our intent to push other large schemes into this sector. With so many sites where Asda colleagues are able to access a bike package, we expect a record number of partner stores to benefit from one single customer. The mechanics of the scheme are being finalised with Asda at the moment. The first application window runs for eight weeks with a second planned for later this year. We are doing everything to ensure it runs as smoothly as normal and vouchers will be issued on a weekly basis to speed up fulfillment.”
All contact and advice on the scheme will be driven by Asda’s People team and retailers are advised not to contact their local store unless told otherwise. Asda’s participation in the Scheme starts on the 30th of March, and further details on Asda store / office information and location can be obtained from Roger Osborn on 01225 448933.
