Autonomy expo in Paris aims to encourage car-free cities

Autonomy is a new go-car-free exhibition being planned for Paris in October. The organiser said it is already backed by the Paris mayor's office.

The expo will take place in the Grande Halle of the Parc de la Villette, and will be staged October 6-9th. The first two days of the show are trade-only.

Firms representing scooters, powered roller skates, hoverboards and driverless cars are expected to exhibit and show organiser Ross Douglas is also hoping for a strong showing from bike brands. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo is spending €150m to turn Paris into the "world’s urban cycling capital by 2020” by which date the city aims to have completely banned diesel vehicles.

Douglas is South African, and ten years ago started Africa’s first contemporary Art Fair, in Johannesburg. .

He expects Autonomy to have 200 exhibitors, and hopes to attract 30,000 visitors.
