Barclays London Cycle Hire is two years old

The capital's bike hire scheme celebrates during the Olympics
Publish date:

Today (Monday July 30th) marks the second year anniversary of Barclays Cycle Hire in London.

Termed Boris Bikes by just about everyone, the system has had highs and lows (though mostly highs) and sadly 26 stations will be closed at various times for the Olympics (which seems a bit of a shame) but overall the Cycle Hire service has been judged a success and even naysayers will find it hard to disagree with the notion it has boosted the visibility of bikes in the capital.

To date more than 160,000 people have signed up as members of Barclays Cycle Hire and they have made over 13 million hires. Around 3.6million trips have been made by casual users since the service became available more widely in December 2010.
