2016 is the 400th anniversary of the death of the most famous playwright in the world and canny cycle touring businesses have holidays and tours to mark the occasion.

Punters can pick between a Romeo & Juliet-inspired tour, taking in Verona after a trip to Lake Garda and across easy going paths from the Alps. Also from Freedom Treks, there's A Winter's Tale self guided tour taking in 118miles through Sicily, the setting of the play.

Also combining the great Bard and bicycling are the Handlebards - a cycling theatre tour troupe that have been operating since 2013. The four-strong troupes carry their set, props and costumes aboard bikes, bringing their environmentally sustatinable Shakespeare plays across the globe. On the date of Shakespeare's death - April 23rd - the Handlebards will put on a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream in Clerkenwell.

Doubtless there are more cycle businesses - possibly in Shakespeare's birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon - commemorating the occasion. If so, let us know in the comments or through BikeBiz@nbmedia.com and we'll add them to this story.
