Barloworld hands £10k to Sustrans at Tour of Britain

Team Barloworld is sponsored by a fork-lift truck supplier and it's this business which tomorrow presents Sustrans with £10 000. The cash will help support Sustrans' Rangers, a 1600-strong band of volunteers looking after their 'own' stretches of the National Cycle Network. Barloworld is also to encourage its employees to take part in Sustrans workdays and to do more cycling.

The cheque presentation takes place in front of a Team Barloworld-Valsir team car before the start of tomorrow's Buxton-Nottingham stage.

Members of the team will present the cheque to Sustrans' fundraising director, Tim Snowdon and local volunteer ranger, Jeremy Taylor.

Keith Hay, MD of Barloworld's UK operation, said:

"The donation is part of Barloworld's Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme which aims to invest in the wider

community in which we work and live. We aim to support the Sustrans Volunteer Rangers throughout the UK in the valuable work they do and commitment they give."

Volunteer rangers help to maintain local sections of the National Cycle Network by litter picking, improving signs, cleaning graffiti and cutting back vegetation.

As well as the donation, Barloworld plans to support Sustrans by encouraging its employees to become involved with workdays organised by the Rangers and by encouraging staff to get on their bikes.
