'Bicycle' is being produced by the team behind critically-acclaimed 'Last Shop Standing', a film about independent record shops.

Bicycle documentary seeks industry funding

Documentary film-maker Pip Piper has teamed up with Bafta-winning director Michael B Clifford to produce ‘Bicycle’, a "humorous, lyrical and warm reflection on cycling and its place in the national psyche." The documentary will air in 2014. "We are in talks about a major premiere and nationwide cinema screenings," Piper told BikeBiz.

Piper’s 2012 documentary ‘Last Shop Standing’ was about the UK’s independent record shops, featuring interviews with Paul Weller, Johnny Marr and Billy Bragg, and received wide critical acclaim.

‘Bicycle’ starts shooting soon and the production team is seeking more sponsorship, including, for £40,000, a headline sponsor. Co-sponsorship costs £6000. The doc has two sponsors so far.

Broadcaster and author Rob Penn, of documentary and book ‘It’s All About the Bike’s is a creative consultant and contributor to ‘Bicycle’. The film will receive its premiere in summer 2014 to coincide with the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire and the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.

It will be screened in cinemas across the UK and released on DVD and digital and terrestrial TV.

"This is a unique opportunity to be associated with a high production value film that will be widely marketed and distributed to a huge and growing cycling demographic," said Piper.
