The number of bicycles taken on Eurostar looks set to reach new highs, the operator has told BikeBiz.
The service carried 200 more bikes in May and June than in the same months last year, like-for-like.
The train service, linking the UK with Europe, saw 3,471 bikes carried in 2009. In the first six months of 2010 Eurostar has taken 1,777 cycles across, putting the firm on track to beat the previous year total.
Each train can carry around ten bikes, depending on size and other luggage requirements.
Eurostar has become increasingly bike-friendly since the service first launched. A spokesperson for the operator – Eurotunnel’s largest customer – told BikeBiz: "We do absolutely encourage people to take their bikes although there is a restriction to the number of bikes on each train, purely because of the amount of hold space available.

One thing to note is that if you have a bike bag, a folding bike can be carried free of charge within your luggage allowance."
