Cannondale introduces Carbon Fiber: In Cycling Apparel!

Cannondale's Spring/Summer 2006 collection delivers innovation for the motion obsessed. BETHEL, CT USA Cannondale, already known for continuous innovation in the cycling industry, has once again raised the bar in terms of what performance apparel aspires to. The new Cannondale LE Carbon collection takes some cues from its bicycle counterparts and has discovered that the properties of this hi-tech material can be used in garments as well. In the fall of 2005, Cannondale introduced its' LE category, a performance apparel design lab reserved for only the pinnacle in fabric and construction techniques. The LE collection has extended into spring/summer 2006 with the introduction of Quadtex Carbon TM fabric. "The fabric is actually injected with organic carbon, made from coconut shells and provides exceptional moisture management and odor adsorption characteristics," says Phillip Sporidis, General Manager for Cannondale Apparel and Accessories. When the body heats up, Quadtex Carbon's MicroClimate TM activates, with 45% better moisture transfer than most fabrics. It keeps a body cool during hot days and heats up during colder ones. This revolutionary new fabric also traps odor during physical activity. The odor is "adsorbed" along with bacteria and is only released during a normal wash and dry cycle and the carbon is re-activated. Cannondale LE jerseys will be engineered using two different forms of Quadtex Carbon fabric. Quadtex Carbon Jersey fabric is used for the majority of upper body coverage, while Quadtex Carbon Grid fabric is a looser weave and is used strategically for ventilation in areas such as side panels or behind the neckline. Both fabrics boast a SPF rating of 50+. In the "lower" half of the collection, LE Carbon shorts and bibs will feature a chamois that is co-molded to Quadtex Carbon fabric for superior moisture management and odor adsorption.
"We're never afraid to experiment when the opportunity to better a riders performance exists," says Sporidis. "Most often we search outside of our industry for the latest textiles and fabric performance technologies. With the widespread use of carbon fiber in the bicycle, and other industries, we didn't have to look too far, and our curiosity turned into execution very quickly."

Cannondale LE Carbon will be available globally in both men's and women's collections at Cannondale dealers in Spring 2006.
