London’s Victoria and Albert Museum has installed Bike Dock Solution’s cycle parking equipment.
The Museum made the move following an increase in the number of bikes used to reach the site – and also following the refurbishment of an area of the site previously used for cycle parking.
A total of 40 Sheffield stands have been installed, powder coated in a mixed colour to match existing classic street furniture.
"Bike Dock has a very good selection of equipment on its web site and we found them very good at interpreting our needs,” explained the V&A’s estates manager, Bob Pavey. “We still need to educate some bike riders to use the racks and not just to tie up at a point close to their office, but we’re getting there."
Bike Dock’s’ Josh Coleman added: “In the UK, a bicycle is stolen every minute and less than 5 per cent of those are returned to their owners.
“Cyclists are more likely to have their bikes stolen than motorcyclists their motorcycle or car owners and cycle theft is the single greatest deterrent to cycle use after road safety fears.”
The Bike Docks are fabricated locally from highly durable 50mm mild steel tube. The new racks have been installed at various points around the Victoria and Albert Museum’s internal road.
