Brookside Primary School, Stockport was the latest site to see the Bike It scheme at work. Bike It is a bike industry seed-funded project run by Sustrans. It that works with over 400 schools, getting children and their parents to see cycling and walking as a real alternative to the car-based school run.

Pupils at the school, one of eleven taking part in the project across Rochdale and Stockport, helped create a mural with a Bike It officer and PowWow community artist Anna Smith to promote cycling and walking.

"It is vital that we give young people in communities across the country the opportunity to travel in ways, which are healthy, sustainable and fun," enthused Bike It Officer, Nes Brierley.

"Cycling to school has so many benefits for pupils such as improved health, confidence and concentration as well as the obvious benefits for the environment in which they will grow up in. Over the next year I hope to treble the number of pupils cycling to school."
